Biology - photosynthesis

is it the photolysis of water or the electron flow down the electron transport chain which releases energy to pump protons across the thylakoid membrane from the stroma into the thylakoid space?

Transport of electrons down the electron chain, which has cytochrome C, releases energy to actively transport H+ from stroma into thylakoid lumen.

Photolysis of water produces 2H+ +2e- + 1/2O2, produces electrons for the electron transport chain.
