UCAS Extra

I’ve been offered 5 unconditionals but upon further thought I’ve completely changed my mind on which university I’d like to go to. I’m really contemplating taking the risk and declining all my offers to go into UCAS extra for the course I want at a different university but really nervous incase I get rejected from that course and practically threw my unconditionals away.

Are there places left on your preferred course at that uni? And not just showing as available on ucas as the advice is to telephone and confirm.

Are there elements such as accommodation that might no longer be available even if the course is?

Have you spoken to anyone to discuss why you want to change your plans and if it’s the best thing to do?

I’d have to email the uni to make sure there’s any places left before I do anything and potentially lose the offers I’m already holding. As with the accommodation, that wouldn’t be an issue as the preferred uni is much closer to where I already am.
Hi there,

Deciding on whether to decline your unconditional offers to enter UCAS Extra is indeed an important decision.

Here are some points to consider:

1.

UCAS Extra is meant as a chance for you to apply to another course if you've used all 5 choices and have not received any offers, or if you've declied all the offers you received. But remember that once you decline ALL of your offers, you cannot reverse this decision.

2.

The main risk is if you do not receive any offers from the course you applied through UCAS Extra, you might not have a secured place at university. However, even if you don't receive an offer after UCAS Extra, there's still Clearing you can apply through.

3.

If you’re certain that the course you now want to pursue is the right fit for you, UCAS Extra gives you the opportunity to apply for it, which could lead to a more fulfilling university experience and career path.

4.

Think carefully about how much more suited the new course is for your career goals and interests. Also, remember to consider the reputation of the university and the quality of life you would have there.

5.

Seek advice from your careers advisor for a professional opinion. They can provide insights into the course and university you’re considering and help you weigh the pros and cons.

Remember that it’s essential to make a decision that you feel is right for your future and your well-being. If you believe that the new course and university align better with your aspirations, then UCAS Extra could be a worthwhile option.

I hope I managed to help!

Best of luck,
Melanie

You wont loose offers just by asking about another course.
No University would do this.

Are any of your current course choics still open to applications? (You can check via UCAS). If so, ask them if you declined the offer to explore Extra options, whether they would give you another offer if you didn't get offers via Extra.

They are asking a bout courses at different unis though, not swaps at existing choices.
