help - on the pill but getting period

i've been on the pill (desogestrel) for 2 months and was told it would stop my period. the doctor told me i might get a light period for the first month but probably not after that. however, for the last 2 weeks (maybe even more, i haven't kept track well) i've had my period. it hasn't been as heavy as usual but still a significant amount of blood. i will try to get a doctor's appointment soon if needed, but does anyone have any experience with this?

Desogestrel doesn't guarantee that your periods stop. In some cases they get lighter, which appears to be your experience.

i see, thank you. my doctor told me it would stop which is why i was worried

but the fact it's been going on for 2+ weeks is worrying me a little, maybe it's just the hormone irregularities though

You are on a progesterone only pill, which is known to cause issues with irregular bleeding for the first few months. It usually settles after a while but if it doesn't, probably best to have another chat with your GP or whoever prescribed it for you.

Have you read the patient information leaflet in the pack?

Vaginal bleeding may occur at irregular intervals while using
Desogestrel. This may be just slight staining which may not even
require a pad, or heavier bleeding, which looks rather like a scanty
period. You may need to use tampons or sanitary towels. You may
also not have any bleeding at all. Irregular bleeding is not a sign that
Desogestrel is not working. In general, you need not take any action;
just continue to take Desogestrel. If bleeding is heavy or prolonged,
you should consult your doctor.
