Hey! I did Edexcel GCSE Music in 2022 and when i revised for this paper, I did practice papers (especially the essay) and would choose random pieces of music to practice skills

Anyone know what the essay is going to be on? My Teacher thinks its either Bethoven or Samba? If anyone has any tips to revise or any links to help that would be helpful?

Hi! I have just found this thread - taking the exam in 2 weeks and extremely nervous. I don't really know how to revise and my teacher isn't the most useful for appraising (great for composition and performance). I've mostly just been going through the revision notes that Edexcel have put on their website, copying them and annotating the score. There are also some really helpful videos on YouTube, but other than watching those I don't know how to revise for the content. I've done all the past papers but regardless my grade doesn't seem to improve - whatever I write just seems to be wrong!! Any tips from anyone?

Im prepping for Edexcel Music and using Tilf website to do mock exams so I can get a mark on my essays and feedback how to improve. Super stressed! Ideas to remove stress are welcomed!

My teacher put powerpoints and knowledge organisers onto google classroom.

here is some of the knowledge organisers(this is the only way to view them because google docs make them look werid):

anyone have tips for the essay? it’s the only thing i struggle with and i want to do well

Any idea on Q9 essay structure? I am a bit confused.

Reply 15

The way I do it is I break up the question, so if it asks for more than one musical element then I do one paragraph on each one. Then within the paragraph I do a PEEL structure for each point that I make, and then evaluate the effectiveness by comparing the two texts. That way I hit all the points that the mark scheme asks for.

Do you know how much time you are given for the essay question after the music for both pieces has been played?

Reply 18

Around 20 mins? I'm not sure because I just scribble until the very end... In the June 2022 paper the total time was 1 hour 45 mins, the section A played for 1 hour 5 mins and the section B played for 19 minutes, so around 20 mins.

are there any predictions of what pieces may come up this year??
