Why I chose DMU: Leicester, A Student City.

When I was deciding where to study, I knew that the location would be as crucial to me as the university itself. I desired a place where I could learn from books and from life, a place that offered more than just lecture halls and libraries. That's when I discovered De Montfort University in Leicester, and I instantly knew it was the place for me.

Situated right in the city centre, De Montfort University puts the heart of Leicester right on your doorstep. Leicester has been named the sixth most vibrant city in the UK, even exceeding Manchester, Birmingham, Liverpool, and Leeds!

The city of Leicester offers everything you anticipate from a city and more. It has fantastic shops, bars and restaurants, all a short distance from the campus. But what makes it truly special is its affordability - according to the latest Student Living Index, Leicester is in the top ten most affordable student cities based on the cost of food, rent, and fun.

But it's not just about having fun, it's about your future too. De Montfort University has been named one of Britain’s top 10 universities for supporting student and graduate start-ups for three consecutive years. With the award-winning Careers Team, I knew I would be in good hands finding my dream career.

One of the things that I adore the most about Leicester is its rich culture and diversity. The city is home to one of the largest celebrations of Diwali outside of India, and it genuinely feels like the world is on my doorstep. It's an inclusive city with a long history of welcoming a variety of ethnic communities and religious faiths.

Leicester is also a city that never stops progressing. It is the third most 'progressive' city in the UK, constantly addressing crucial issues such as recycling and the gender pay gap, and promoting positive change.

And let's not forget about sports! Leicester is a city for sport lovers, being home to Premier League and FA Cup winners Leicester City and rugby union's Leicester Tigers, among others.

Finally, as someone who enjoys the arts, Leicester's vibrant arts scene was a big draw for me. From the biggest comedy festival in the country to live performances at Curve theatre and colourful street art by GraffWerk, there's always something to see and do.

Choosing De Montfort University and Leicester was one of the best decisions I've ever made. I can't envision studying anywhere else.
