Picking university’s

I’ve gotten all my offers back to study psychology and I know I want to do Cardiff University as my first choice but I’m unsure what to pick for my second. My options are Cardiff Met and Bristol University. I want to pick Cardiff met as although it’s not the best uni and is essentially the btec version of Cardiff University, it does offer placements which would be very useful for my CV. However, Bristol is a more respected uni but doesn’t offer placements. What should I do?

Hi there,

Congratulations on your offers- that's awesome! Usually, the second choice might be the more "realistic" option - is either of the grade requirements more realistic? For Cardiff, are you attracted to the city most? It's great to hear that it;'s your first choice!

All the best,

Hello,

Hope you are well and congratulations on your offers!

In terms of choosing which university as your insurance choice, you can contact the modules between two universities and see which one suits you better.

For placements, you can contact the programme leader, Dr Louise- Amie Prior via [email protected] and they will be able to discuss your choice with you.

For general enquiries, please feel free to drop us an email via [email protected].

Hope it helps!

hey, im a cardiffmet student and can honestly say i felt the same about met. but tbh im so grateful i attended this uni. now that i am Interview for my postgrad honestly no one cares where i am graduating from as long as i got the grades and experience. since met gives u the experience through placement, this is probably more convenient. however, my sister attends bristol and i think it just depends where you feel more comfortable. but personally, if one uni offers placement and the other doesn’t, I’d attend the one offering placement. met being the btec version simply aint true, it’s definitely younger than cardiff uni. but for instance the course i do is DOUBLE accredited at cardiffmet, and not accredited at cardiff uni so that told me a lot

Hi there!

Whilst I am a Cardiff University student, I am a psychology student currently on placement. I would be happy to answer any questions about placement in general - but it is genuinely a very valuable experience! There are a lot of benefits to it as well as your CV, as it develops you as a person, helps prepare for third year, develops your skills etc. Let me know if you had any questions about this!

For insurance, you’ll want to pick somewhere with lower grades than your firm. As it’s an insurance choice because it’s the ‘fall back’ option, for if you don’t get into your firm. Ranks don’t matter much anymore, pick where you’d be happiest.
