stuck between two unis

helloo

i’m studying biomed from september, but i’m stuck between which uni i want to firm. i’m stuck between newcastle and leeds

newcastle offered BBC and i’ve been to the open day and it’s lovely, but it’s so far away from where i live and no direct way back home. also i would have to do the summer school week which is fine

leeds have offered BBB and i’m going to an offer holder day at the end of the month. from what i’ve seen it seems very similar to newcastle city-wise and it’s closer (but not too close) to home. also i would have to write an essay (i think?) to gain the BBB offer which is less to do than newcastle.

for me i think it’s the grade difference but also the distance. i’m predicted AAB but in my mocks i achieved ABC, so i’m really not too sure what to expect from the real exams. i feel like if i were to firm leeds i would have to leave my job in order to revise more, especially at weekends (i work two full days). when i sent my application off, i was confident i was going to firm newcastle, but now i feel quite drawn to leeds.

is anyone in a similar predicament? it’s such a big choice and everyone i know has already firmed their choice!!

Hi, I'm also deciding which uni to firm for biomed, I'm between Warwick and Sheffield. I'm a bit put off because Sheffield is so much further away lol, but many people have said distance shouldn't put you off if you prefer the university.

You could consider which uni's modules you prefer as that might influence your decision a bit.

Definitely visit the Leeds offer holder day to get a feel of it (I'm doing the same for Warwick this month), as that will help because you mentioned you feel drawn to Leeds.

Generally many people put the higher grade offer as their firm and the lower as their insurance, so that could help, but ultimately it's which uni you prefer.

I agree, I'm indecisive and it's a big decision to make! 😮*💨 (I've been trying to decide for a month now lol)

ahh thank you!! i would put newcastle as my insurance but the contextual offer only stands if you firm it unfortunately😭 and with regards to the modules they both have very similar if not identical modules which is good but also so frustrating for me to make a decision!
the distance never really put me off to be honest, but it’s only now that i’ve started to look at how i would get home, and with newcastle i think it’s three trains and a six hour journey, whereas leeds is much shorter😭 it’s such a big decision especially for indecisive people like us lol 😬
Apply for the course which has got placements

yeah 6 hours is rough.. for sheffield it's 5 hours on the train and that was draining lol. Dang, what would the grade offer be if you didn't firm it? You could put another uni as ur insurance if they have lower grades, if you were to put Leeds as your firm.

if i didn’t firm it would be AAB which is roughhh😭😭 but i have applied for another uni who need BBC so i could firm leeds and put that other uni as my insurance? i’m not too sure but i’m hoping to come to a decision by the end of the week 🤞

i’ll try and have a decision before then but i probably won’t actually put it through ucas until i’ve at least been to leeds in case i really don’t like it 🙏 like i don’t want to make a big decision just based on the vibes i’m getting without actually having a look first 😭

hey, i have visited leeds and it does seem like an amazing city, the campus is also super nice! im stuck between leicester and leeds but also got a partners newcastle offer. i like you live quite far from newcastle and the distance is what put me off, but if your heart says newcastle and its just the distance putting you off, maybe its still worth it if you think something abt their course is better? but 100% leeds seems a great uni too
