💎My A-Level Journey into Cambridge (hopefully!!!!!) 💎

Heya!!!

This is going to be my first gyg, as I loved the idea of them after reading several others. It's gonna keep me motivated and hopefully romanticise studying enough that I can get into Cambridge!!!

Ok (so a little bit about me) Hi, I go by Kitcat, and I'm a Y12 student aiming to get into medicine at Cambridge! I take Biology, Chemistry, Maths and Further Maths A levels and enjoy my subjects a lot! I keep myself busy at school constantly and outside of school as much as possible. My current grades I'm really happy with: A*A*A and FMaths is unpredicted so far. I take part in a lot of school clubs, like mentoring for all my subjects, Fly Lab (where we run tests on flies!!!!!) and even bio, chem and med Societies!

I intend to update this blog every 1/2 month or so otherwise I'll probably forget, but the next big update will be the end of the month, as I will get proper grades after some huge exams in 2 weeks!!! I hope you can join this journey with me as I turn myself into an academic weapon worthy enough to get into a great uni!

Thank you!!! I'd probably have to say maths is currently the hardest, not because of the things you need to know, but bc you drop so many marks if you make a stupid mistake!!! Also I'm in my school's volleyball club too!! What kinda things do you like doing during the game? My favourites are definitely spiking and receiving

I have my own med club, but my school is so small so we don’t have any like bio or chem ones 😭 and they sound so cool too! I try and take part in any bio or chem projects I can tho cause they are all very interesting to me.

I don’t do any sports clubs (used to do ballet and badminton, badminton more of a hobby now and ballet just wasn’t that fun after 10 years), but I’m so jealous that you get to do volleyball!

As I said my school is small so we don’t have many clubs and if we do they’re more art based which is not my thing, but Im a part of two engineering projects, one of which just finished. I basically try and take part in any stem thing I can lol. I do wish we had more clubs, when I was younger we did but then clearly Covid and now the teachers just don’t have time 🤷*♀️

Was wondering what other unis you were thinking of? Cambridge is my aspirational one (it’s be such a dream to get in), but realistically the odds are low. Idk where else I’m going to apply to get (not in the sense of ooh anywhere other than Cam isn’t good enough, more like idk what other unis are like and which would suit me lol).

Crazily too I’m starting mentoring next half term 😭 we’re out here living the same life in slightly different fonts

Damn same life in slightly different fonts hits hard! That's super cool you have your own med club!!! I go to my school's one but we're on the bigger side so its super selective who gets to lead it. Badminton's really cool, but I was never good at it! Ballet also seems very cool, but I could imagine it getting a little dull after such a long time, you must be very strong! Currently uni-wise I've made my own mini-shortlist of Cambridge as aspirational, Aberdeen, UCL and Imperial (Though still debating the London ones bc they're close but suuuuper pricey) and as a backup I'd like to go do Biochem at Leicester bc apparently if you do rlly well on the test in the first year, they offer you a chance to switch over into a med course! What about you, what kinda unis have you been looking at?

Sounds nice! I’m really not sure about the London unis, Ik they’re supposed to be well renowned for research and very aspirational too but idk if I’d want to live in London (and as you said expensive!). Thinking of looking at places like Exeter, Edinburgh (although very far for me lol), Bristol, but I think I really need to visit some places cause atm they’re all just names and not actual possible futures in my mind 😂 😭

And I was also thinking biochem for my fifth option idk where but jeez this is getting scary

noo fr that's one annoying thing that maths is especially guilty of, one time i got 1/6 even though i had 80% of the correct working and that's just gcse maths... scared for a-level maths now haha.

omg really?? i'm still quite new (been going on and off for about a year) to it so i've been doing more training than games lmao, but i lovee digging! it hurts my arms so bad but it's so satisfying and it's something so unique to volleyball which i love!
