Student finance - study abroad/placement year from 3 to 4year

Hi,

I’m currently in my second year of studies, and I’ll be going out for study abroad in September and I’ll be doing unpaid internship in term 2. I’m currently on 3 year course but will be changing to 4.

How does it work with applying for SFC? Deadline is 31 May for student finance but my university is saying that they cannot change course details from 3 to 4 years until start of August which worries me about maintenance loan and Turing grant. I heard various things from different people which is making me confused.

Is University supposed to send something to SFC? How do I go about applying as normally I would be going into the final year, but will be going on study abroad/work placement before going into my final year.

Kind regards,
Paulina

Hi there,

If you are changing to a 4 year course you would apply for the next Academic Year and provide your updated course details so you'd be linked to the new and correct course.

Regarding your placement, we would require some information regarding it which you would include on your application, if everything is not already confirmed with the uni for the placement then you should still make the full application and then wait before sending evidence of the placement.

Thanks, Ross
