Year 10 work experience

I am currently in Year10 and my school is giving us a week off in July so that we can do work experience. I am thinking about becoming a doctor in the future and so have been emailing hospitals to ask if I can do work experience with them by shadowing a doctor. So far all of the hospitals said that I have to be at least 16 years old in order to shadow a doctor.

Is there any way for me to be allowed to shadow doctor at this age?

If hospitals don't let under 16s shadow doctors, do GPs generally let them shadow doctors?

What other alternatives do I have for my work experience?

Heyy
I'm also in yr 10 right now and have my week of work experience in June. I also want to do something related to medicine in the future. And yes your right, most hospitals require you to be over 16, so I didn't bother emailing them (but there's no harm in trying!). Instead, I asked one of my mum's friend (who's a doctor), but she also said the same thing (that you need to be over 16).

I don't think you will be allowed to shadow doctors or GPs, as your dealing with personal issues of the patients if yk what I mean (but I'm not completely sure, so you could try emailing a local GP/ask someone who knows better and find out?)

I also spoke to a few people who are currently in yr 13, and as far as I know its the yr 12 work experience that really matters, and in year 10 its kinda just to get you used to the process, if the placement is right for you etc.
However if you really want to do something related to medicine, I recommend doing your placement at a care home (which is where I'm doing mine!!) as they usually more likely to accept you rather than hospitals, plus it also gives you a glimpse into the healthcare sector as well as working with different people.

Hope this helps!
