Blood clots on the pill

I have been on the pill twice and the mini pill once (due to fear of blood clots). I have absolutely no health issues to where I can’t take the pill (my blood pressure in the doctors always is higher, but I think it’s anxiety). My periods have reached a point to where I can’t deal with them naturally anymore and the pain is so bad, prescribed painkillers don’t help completely and make me feel sick. So I’ve got the pill again to try, and I’m so scared of getting a blood clot, I can’t really try oestrogen free methods because the mini pill made my pain worse and I bled the whole time, plus my periods are really irregular, so I need the control from the combined pill.

Did anyone else have anxiety around blood clots and how do you get over it? I’ve spoke to my GP and she said the risk is tiny and she doesn’t know anyone who’s had a clot from the pill.

I’ve been on pill for just about over a year now, same as you because of awful periods (I’d faint vomit pretty much every month).

I was a bit alarmed at first, but the risk as they say is soo small that it is very unlikely to be you, and even if it was you’d know the symptoms immediately and be able to recognise it’s a blood clot and get help faster than if you weren’t on the pill. At the end of the day for me the pros of having stable pain free periods is so much better than the slight risk of blood clots. Also if there is no genetic history or family having them then the risk is even less. And the longer you’re on it the less likely, since you’ve tried it a couple times then you may be less likely.

Up to you in the end but I wouldn’t worry too much about them, just know what to do if you had one

Thank you for your advice, I ended up needing to switch to the mini pill because of a health condition
