greek men
produce legitimate heirs (born inside marriage) as future citizens
be the head of the family (kyrios)
provide wealth for their oikos
participate in the assembly (democracy)
serve as a soldier defending your city state (military service was compulsory for able bodied men aged 20—60)
behave in a moderate manner
greek women
produce legitimate heirs
act modestly & have limited contact with men outside the family
wool–working to provide clothes for the family
supervising slaves, running the household and rearing the children
taking part in certain religious rituals
preparing dead bodies & funeral rites
be beautiful and ideally fair–skinned
despite their role in the daily running of the household, raising children and making clothes, Athenian women were not by any means the head of the household and were, for the most part, prohibited from leaving the house without an escort
roman men
participate in political life by climbing up the cursus honorum.
being skilled in public speaking; giving strong speeches was important to win votes in elections, plead legal cases, and command troops on the battlefield
display virtus: manliness, strength, vigour, bravery, ability, virtue, excellence
roman women
display pudicitia (chastity, modesty)
produce legitimate heirs
run the household and manage business interests
participate in certain religious rituals
support her husband at dinner parties and attend appropriate public events

I do love and relationships and was wondering do we need to use direct quotes? I usually use quotes for Sappho and Ovid but because Seneca and Plato don't have any prescribed sources, are we still expected to directly quote? Before I've said things like, in On Marriage, or explained in Symposium, but do I need to change this?

i think you're only expected to use precise quotation from the prescribed sappho poems/ars 3

Predictions for Greek Religion anyone...?

Looking through the extended questions atm, but for sources the Marble relief/anatomical votive from the shrine of Asklepios has never appeared (it is a leg though...bit difficult to squeeze marks out of).
All the other visual sources have appeared before, makes me think they'll choose a site this year - likely the Acropolis. Olympia appeared in 2020. However, Delphi has never cropped up besides in sample paper, and in 2021 they reused the sample's source (the sacrificial amphora) in the 2021 paper.

Only eight potential sources, not too bad I think. 30/20 markers are a different matter lol

Hello everyone,

I hope your revision is going well. I am having some trouble with L&R, especially with Ovid as I haven't finished it yet. I was wondering if anyone had any examples of essays for question 30 M? It would be really helpful for me to see how to structure them. Thank you so much in advance.

In the mark scheme they often quote things e.g from the republic or symposium. I would if I were you as it will help with you AO2.

Hey, does anyone know what the questions were on for 2023 Love and Relationships paper?

I did the A level Exam last year. 10 mark source was on Sappho's depiction of desire, and the other on plato views on love and desire. The 20 mark question was about the depiction and definition of love in Sappho and Plato's works and who did this more effectively. The 30 Mark Question I did was 'Seneca fears love, yet Ovid celebrates it' to what extend do you agree. I don't remember the other question but I think it was about Plato. Tbh there was a lot on love and desire within the exam, so I think this year will look at different areas. Perhaps a questions on Marriage and the role of men in woman? hope that helps!

Acropolis (alongside sanctuary at Olympia) was part of one of the 2022 30 markers
