Student finance for second degree in Dental Hygiene

Hello, I am a dental nurse and I got an offer to study dental hygiene and hoping to apply to student finance. It is my second degree as well.

I read in a different thread that as long as the person is not registered in the field, then the student’s previous study doesn’t stop them from qualifying for a SF loan. Does that mean being registered with the GDC as a dental nurse would be a problem?

Any help would be appreciated thank you. (Excuse my username).

Hi there,

Your name is absolutely fine don't worry.

Can you please confirm the full course name, the duration of the course and what university you intend to study at? Thanks, Ross

Hey Ross,

Thank you for your reply. It is the 3year degree course in dental hygiene at Teeside University.

Looking forward to hear from you.

Hi Toocoolforskool,

This is correct, Dental Hygiene is an AHP exception course so if you are not registered in the field you will be eligible for funding despite already holding a degree

Thanks,
Calum

Hello Calum,

But I am a dental nurse registered with the GDC.

Does that mean no funding for me?

Just would like to clarify that part please.

Many Thanks.

Hi Toocoolforskool,

Yes, if you are already registered as a Dental Nurse you would be ineligible to receive funding to study Dental Hygiene from us unfortunately

Thanks,
Calum

Hi,
I am in the same situation as above. If was to deregister from the GDC would I be approved for SF?
