How can I achieve A-A* in a-levels!!!!!

I’m currently taking History (edexcel), Sociology (AQA) Psychology (edexcel). I know the topics of all three subjects but when it comes to writing essays I just crumble for some reason. Need some advice on any of these subjects and resources that you think that can boost my grades!! Thank you!

So generally the way I structure most my essays is usually an intro, 3 paragraphs (following the PEEL structure and a possible counter argument) and a conclusion.

I do RS and writing three points for an essay is not enough, but I don't know how much time you get to write an essay in those subjects as I don't do them. Do you know how much you are expected to write?

I totally understand, for example for psychology you can’t make 3 points you have to write at least 5 paragraphs with different evaluations each. But for sociology this is the sort of structure it follows and for history as you can’t really make more than 1 in the same paragraph. Most of my exams are like 120m or 135m long

Do you know why you are losing marks?

for sociology, the max paragraphs you can write is 5 including an intro and conclusion (30 markers)! me included - i need to work on my timing in order to fit as much content as possible! for psychology, i usually do outline, example, evaluation and then repeat for any other topics i need to cover in the essay ! what is your biggest issue when it comes to writing essays?

i do sociology and psychology but i do aqa for psych, however the revision techniques should be fairly relative. i got a B in both my mocks and 1 mark from an A which isnt overly impressive but the way i revise actually allows me to remember the content. for sociology, ill go through the text book and make A LOTT of summarised notes, whilst also making flash cards. its also really helpful to watch youtube videos and i recommend watching the tutor2u revision blasts, honestly its such great help. for psychology, watch youtube videos and make notes from them, going through ao1 and a03 of each component within a topic, and refer directly to your textbook also. but DO EXAM QUESTIONS!! cos unlike sociology, there are so many small mark questions and the examiners like to be sneaky and will literally deduct you a mark if you miss a certain word so make sure to learn the content very detailed whilst also learning textbook definitions to key words so you dont miss out on any marks. i dont make flashcards for psych but i presume they are also really helpful. hope this helps

Good morning to you 😂 thank you so much for the tips. I’ve actually been thinking about this sorta plan but I just always think that flashCARDS aren’t going to help. I’ll give it a shot and see how it goes. Also I agree with the exam question practice. How do you prepare for the big marks for either sociology but especially psychology? I assume Aqa also has 12, 16, 20 markers for psych.

hii, sorry that was alot😅but normally to prepare for a big mark question we learn the structure of how to answer it, it may be different for edexcel psychology but for our 16 markers, your ao1 is worth 6 marks so your knowledge around whats being asked and the other 10 marks in ao3 so knowing your evaluation points. i think its good to utilise your compressed revision notes, if you end up making them, to your advantage by doing basic content for a subtopic, then evaluations points. that way it will be easier for you to write your paragraphs when writing those higher mark questions. also dont undermine basic evaluations as obviously we arent going to remember every single one but using things like time, ethics, validity, etc are still valid evaluations and will get you marks if they you make them relevant enough to relate to your answer, even enough to enter the top band of marks. sorry im writing so much but for sociology i think its more easier as there is a more set structure than psych, id say make a lottt of essay plans, especially because the examiners will ask the same question but jus change the wording, its easy to be thrown off so jus make alot of essay plans. make sure even when doing practice essays at home, you consolidate your knowldge before hand so you dont miss out on anything getting you in the higher band
