Potential change in parent circumstances after applying

Hi,

Can find clear advice if the circumstances change detrimentally, but if a parent for example changes relationship status after an application so that the household income is increased during the University year. As the likelihood is the loan amount would have been paid at a higher rate than the subsequent financial position, how is the overpayment treated, is it it ignored for that year already in payment and then subsequent years are reduced, or is it double penalised by a reduction in future loans and also a clawback of the overpayment?

Trying to establish if the supporting application should be done at current circumstances or pre-emptively include the additional income so that the student knows where they stand for the coming year? Technically the latter is dishonest as not the actual situation but as I say, there isn't really clarity apart from saying to fill a Change in Circumstance form but it's the potential outcomes there appears to be no concrete details on.

Thanks in advance

Hi there,

Are you the parent or the student? What did the relationship status change to?

Thanks, Ross

Parent - would be cohabiting so instead of single income household there would be two incomes but not at the time the application was made

Hi Woby_Tide,

Is this in support of a 24/25 application?

Thanks,
Calum

Yes 24/25 but submitting the application now as a lone income household, but wanting to understand the implications if my circumstances change during the 24/25 academic year

Hi Woby_Tide,

If your circumstances change during the academic year you don't need to take any action but will need to provide you and your partner's details for the next academic year in 25/26

Thanks,
Calum
