Relationship progression

Ok, so I’m talking with a guy for a few months and I am thinking about asking him on a date. My friends have told me “he is the guy, he should ask” but honestly I feel like maybe I should at this point as I have come to stay with my parents for a week, I am closer to him now so I should make the move and ask him out before I go.

Well, I’ve been a little scared to ask him out this whole week and now it’s Friday, so I can only do the weekend before I go. I don’t know if it’s too late to ask.

Also when I comes to relationship progression, well I like him a lot, and won’t mind potentially dating him if we click etc. but I don’t know how he feels, we will be doing a lot of long distance on and off for at least the next 2.5 years (assuming something comes out of this, I’m fine with it as I think it’ll allow me to focus), and he said he wants to do a bunch of things for himself so can’t have any distractions (this comment was referred to not having social media) but I can’t help to think if distractions also mean dating. As before I met him I had this little rule called “a few years no distractions” which basically meant don’t date for a few years and purely focus on my studies and career, well I was doing that and met him 😂 now for him I’m fine with those plans being ruined. I just don’t know if he is on the same boat.

I have been told that since we have been talking for a long time as there is no label so i should leave. I see no reason to leave as things are going pretty slow and there is consistent communication. And we haven’t met as we are long distance a majority of the time (and broke). So I don’t mind that we don’t have a label, although we both have admitted to liking each other and are constantly flirting.

His loss!! You genuinely sound like a lovely person - I think he’s kinda confusing + giving wrong signs as you said he kinda “flirted” with you

Honestly it feels good in a way. So if anyone stumbles across this post and is in a similar position, honestly go and ask a guy out (or a girl). You may get rejected, it hurts. But I feel a sense of empowerment. I’ve never asked a guy out before, even though i got rejected I feel a weight has been lifted off my shoulders 🙂 also feel strangely confident to ask someone on a date if I see fit in the future.

It's great that you have reflected on this in this way. And you're right. It does hurt but at the same time you now know exactly where you stand, which allows you to move on. That is always better than being stuck in limbo and being worried about rejection.
