Engineering super-curriculars

Hi,
I am in Year 12 at school, and hoping to study engineering/design engineering at uni. I am trying to build my super-curriculars, but aren't too sure what to do that is related to engineering. Does anyone have any suggestions?

Hi! I'm a year 13 and I applied to do robotics and mechatronics engineering in uni. For super-curricular, I built robots in my free time and I did a work experience day at arm. I would suggest that you find a part in engineering that you like (e.g. Robotics or maglev trains) and learn more about it or design and/or build some machines. Also, there's a lot of study days that universities do so I would suggest looking at university outreach programs. Hope this helps!

Hey there , its great that you are considering your super-curriculars before you have to start applying.
Building super-curricular activities related to engineering can help you develop valuable skills, gain practical experience, and demonstrate your passion for the field on your university applications.

Before I share some advise on which you should consider I want to be transparent with you and say that I did a whole range of extra curricular's some of which had absolutely nothing to do with engineering. I did the United Nations debate , public speaking , played a sport , competed in IT hackathons , maths and science competitions and I was a Mathlete. I would advise you to pick the ones that are most interesting to you and don't stretch yourself too thin and get involved in too much.
Here's a list of the things I would have appreciated when I was in your shoes :
Join Engineering Clubs or Competitions: there are many science , maths and IT related competitions that you can take part in.
STEM Summer Programs : some universities offers these , DMU being one of them( our outreach team does these for different courses ) .
Internships or Work Experience :colone:

ven if you're in Year 12, some companies may offer short-term internships or work placements for high school students
Online Courses and Tutorials: use online sources to develop new skills , I used YouTube to initialy learn how to use excel on the back end and program with VBA . This was very useful in my first job.
Volunteer Work: Look for volunteer opportunities where you can apply your engineering skills or interests to serve your community.
I hope this gives you a good place to start but bear in mind that ultimately you need to pick options that will be fun and interesting for you , this is the reason I did a mix of different things and Goodluck!!
