AQA Computer Science A-Level - self taught

I'm currently in year 11 doing OCR Computer Science, and next year our school are starting to let us do A-Level computer science, because our parents kept on asking. However, its a self-taught online course and the AQA exam board.

Has anyone done this before, or even just the AQA exam board in class normally, who could give me some insight on what this course is like?

Hey, as long as you enjoy the subject at GCSE, you'll have no problem doing it. If you don't enjoy it you wont be motivated to self study. But the content isn't super hard, you'll be fine

ahah good computer science teachers are in short supply. I had a teacher for 1 term of year 12 and half a term of year 13... and we had to self teach the rest. And I got an A* so sure you can do it too pal!

Not everyone finds the AQA syllabus easy. The content has quite a lot of maths based floating point and Boolean arithmetic and the standards required to achieve a good mark in the NEA are higher than for OCR. In addition you can't do well at AQA if you can't code (unlike in OCR). The exam is a coded paper where you have to submit your answers in working code based on a skeleton program you are given to study before the exam.

For AQA is the Rolls Royce and worth a lot more in terms of personal development than that offered by OCR but don't accept those who say it is easy. It is not. They are just exceedingly motivated and quite probably have been coding since they were born.
