Hi! I was just wondering so right now I am in between picking bristol and reading as my insurance - bristol is abb and reading is bbb. I would rather put bristol but reading is the safer option but I was wondering if I do pick bristol but then I end up getting bbb, will it be likely I can get into reading through clearing on results day?

Hey @_cxs_

Great question.
This would likely depend on the course you are applying to as to whether it is an option in clearing and then how many other people are applying through clearing for the same course. Unfortunately, we can't guarantee whether or not you would get a place through clearing for any course, however, this does sound like a well thought out plan!
I would also consider which one you would prefer to go to without thinking about the grades i.e. which one do you think you would feel happiest at. This may also help you make your decision.

If you have any questions at all about Reading or anything though, please do ask and we will try our best to help!

Good luck!

Hey @_cxs_,

Unfortunately we don't have access to information like the number of applicants, however I did history myself and the cohort was 60-80 in my year so there's definitely a chance! Fewer people also do joint honours so that may also positively impact your chances. Again, it really depends on how many firmed applicants we get!

If there's anything you'd like to learn about in terms of studying history here or just living in Reading in general that may help you make your decision in general please ask - I'd be happy to tell you more!

I made a mistake with my application due to studying a year early and not knowing about university much , but now I’ve done my research I realise I want to go to reading for Biochemistry, a foundation year . I do not know if they do clearing for a foundation year in biochemistry and I very much want to study there , but do not know if they go into clearing for that subject .

Hey @AWorriedStudent,

Where are you at in your university journey- are you already attending or firmed another university choice? I'm presuming already chosen another, in which case Clearing is likely your only option for attending this year, unless you decide to take a gap year and apply for 2025 standard entry. I'm not sure if the course will be going into clearing as of yet as it depends on how many students have already applied and firmed their places, but I'd recommend that you fill in this form and check out the other things on that page for more info, though Clearing won't open until July. It may also be worth emailing our admissions team at [email protected] to see if they can help you any further or lay out your options for you.

I hope this helps! If you have any other questions or need any more advice, please don't hesitate to ask.

Hi I want to try and apply for biomedical science with a foundation year through clearing because I am extremely scared of getting low results. But I have this really bad fear that I might even get grades lower than the requirements for this course ( biomed with foundation year). Will there even be a chance for me to be on this course?

Good evening @Neshax,

There is always a chance for every student, clearing does vary between years and we can not guarantee an accepted place. But, it is deffintly worth trying.

This web link will tell you everything you need to know about clearing with Reading University.

https://www.reading.ac.uk/ready-to-study/clearing/?utm_source=google&utm_campaign=hl_clearing_2024&utm_medium=pmax&utm_content=brand&gad_source=1&gclid=CjwKCAjwzIK1BhAuEiwAHQmU3lXf0sZYaQ3xUZDbLnaRPUvefG0lUzugjQsiybb6bT27Xggef_6TQBoCx-0QAvD_BwE

Sorry, it is a really long link, I am currently expierncing technical issues and am trying to resolve them. I am a 1st year Ecology student. However, I hope the link helps, and you can see the information.

I wish you the best of luck with your results day, and if you need any further advice on clearing, please let us know, we are happy to help.

All the best

Hey, do Reading accept equivalent grades or lower their entry requirements on results day?

Hello @Anonymous,

Universities usually accept equivalent grades, which should be included in your offer. Further details on the UCAS process or results can be found here.

I have found some information here, which you can read through. It guides you on how to prepare for results day and covers everything you need to know. Hopefully, this will help you feel better prepared. Generally speaking, the university will not lower grades on results day. However, you can reapply via clearing, although you cannot reapply to the same course at the same university. You will need to reapply for a slightly different course at the same university or reapply to the same course but at a different university. I hope this makes sense. Please refer to the links I sent you, as this will have the most accurate and up-to-date information. Clearing information can be found here.

All the best

Hi there I applied for a course that has a foundation year but say I’d wanted to switch to the same course without the foundation year on results day would I have to enter clearing or just phone up the uni and ask them to switch to the same course but without a foundation year

Also could you give a brief summary of how clearing works in terms of your firm and insurance choice on ucas - like what happens there’s a few days left o results day

Id really appreciate it if you coup make a little checklist so I can be prepared fore results day and clearing 😁

Hi, my son has applied and got firm offer from Lancaster, and his insurance is Reading. He is seriously thinking he doesn't want to go up north now and would prefer to go to Reading. If he doesn't make the grades for his firm, then all good. But if he does make grades for his firm, and wants to come to Reading, his insurance, does he have to decline his firm and go through clearing (which we would prefer to avoid). There are places currently at Reading for his course. What's your advice?

Good evening @Gladtobe

It's great to hear your son is considering studying at the University of Reading.

Unfortunately, due to UCAS regulations, when a firm place is declined, you also decline your insurance place, and therefore, your son will need to reapply via clearing. More information on declining the firm place, and what happens can be read here on the UCAS website.

Similarly, here is the information for the University of Reading clearing and the steps to follow.

I hope this helps.

Good evening @Anonymous

In terms of changing your application, UCAS does not usually accept course changes after the 25th of July, so I recommend you contact the Reading University admissions team via telephone. Their contact details can be found via this link. They will be able to tell you how to proceed with this and confirm whether or not you can make this change without entering clearing.

If you do end up entering clearing, this website is great for guiding you through the process and explaining what you need to do. Similarly, UCAS has some very helpful webpages that explain clearing; you can access these websites here.

If you decide to decline your firm choice, your insurance choice is automatically declined. However, if you do not meet the requirements for the firm choice, you will be able to accept your insurance choice. Further information on this can be found on the above weblinks.

I hope this helps, if you have any more questions, please get in touch.

All the best,

Good evening @Anonymous

The University of Reading has a great finance program accredited for its high-quality education.

I can quote the University of Reading's Finance page, which states that the University of Reading is a top 25 UK course for Finance and is very competitive.

Similarly, when joining the University of Reading, you will be a part of the Henly Business School; you can find more information here. The Henley business school has excellent facilities which you can utilise, as well as the other university facilities.

Generally speaking, the town centre has much to do, including sports activities like bowling. There are also great places to eat out and many shops.

I hope this helps, and if you have any further questions please let us know.

All the best,
Ella 😀
