Is Nottingham rough?

I know that this is a common question but I'm deciding on my uni offers and much prefer the course for Nottingham university. Is the city really that dangerous nowadays? I've heard it's gotten well run down since COVID. Any experiences from current students are greatly appreciated

It has it's rough areas but no more so than any other major city. Just be wary of where you are walking around especially at night.

Sorry this is late, but I have lived in Nottingham most of my life and plan on going UoN. As the first reply said of course it has rough areas, but so do all major cities. Spiking is quite common in notts so if partying is your thing so I'd be cautious of that, the first ever time I went on a night out my friend was spiked. I wouldn't recommend walking long distances at night/in the dark especially alone. Areas to avoid are St Anns, the Meadows and Radford. Hyson Green is a bit dodgy too, other than this it's alright, don't let that scare you out of the uni, it's just as "run down" as every other place in England tbh and the area around UP and Jubilee (Wollaton Park side) are very populated with students and usually quite safe. There's always trouble in the city centre on friday, saturday nights and out of term nights but this is expected due to the sheer amount of drunk students. You'll probably be fine, but anything can happen anywhere just be aware of your surroundings.
