Skincare help

I'm currently on adapalene n have used it for about 3 months but only this last month i built up my tolerance to use it daily. I double cleanse with cerave foaming cleanser and centella oil cleanser at night aswel and dont cleanse at daytime and use the dynasty cream by boj as moisturizer and skin1004 SPF. Prior to adapalene I used benzoyl peroxide for 2 years which worked amazingly but I became resistant to it so was given adapalene. My skin is now the worst it has been I have really bad acne and marks and red deep bumps and it's just destroying my confidence will getting rid of adapalene completely and just using what I have be enough to rebuild my skin and get rid of the acne . I am a 20 year old male. I've also tried the beauty of jseon rice SPF which stung my eyes and didn't do good to my skin, snail mucin broke me out, la roch possay effsclar duo broke me out and their SPF did the same, neutrogena hydro boost gel cream was ok but gave a few pimples and bondi sands didn't do much. Cerave was my enemy it kept breaking me out the moisturiser, night cream and SPF but the cleansers seem to be doing good, I also tried the annua oil cleanser which didnt do my skin too good. I just don't know what to do anymore.

when using adapalene u want to keep your routine as simple as possible - cleanser, moisturiser and spf only
acne not improving/getting worse is a sign of skin irritation so you should take a break and rebuild your skin barrier. don't use a foaming cleanser or oil cleanser when your skin is irritated, it can strip your skin.

to rebuild your skin barrier you should hydrate as much as possible using a good moisturiser and no exfloliants

if u think ur skin barrier is damaged then yes take a break until your skin barrier appears to improve
then you can start it again, but you have to take it slowly and start like 2x a week at first then build it up

I keep it simple, no fragrances generally. the type of skincare that they'd sell in a pharmacy.

Some active ingredients like adapalene and tretinoin may cause purging when you're starting out or when you're increasing the strength. Skin purging is said to last 4-6 weeks, however, everyone's skin is different. Purging mostly happens when treatments like adapalene kickstart your skin's cell renewal and bring all the debris under your skin to the surface, which, in the short term, can cause breakouts and redness.
It also sounds like your skin might be on the more sensitive side so try to steer clear of proucts that contain heavy fragrences and alcohol as these can ruin your skin barrier even more over time.
If you think you have acne prone skin too, there are websites where you copy and paste the ingredients list and it will tell you if that product is bad for your skin by idneitying which products might clog your skin. Just be aware that if the ingreident is closer to the top of the list - then it means its in a higher quanitity and therefore more of that ingredient. I hope this makes some sort of sense.

I've also had very bad acne that lasted for 4 years and whilst my skin isn't crytal clearn - it has massivily healed and improved overtime. I am quite familiar with the frustration of skincare and if you ever need any advice or need help finding any product recommendations, you can always message me

hi thanks so much for your help. I heard a lot about the importance of double cleansing and using a oil clenaser I wear spf pretty much daily as a male so do I need to oil cleanse aswel do u think? I tried it for a few weeks with different ones but didn't see much improvement apart from my nose which became smoother. also I saw a gp and they took me off adapalene and put me on antibiotics instead as it gave me pauples and the gp said it can lead to scarring since I'm no longer using adapalene do u think using a exfoliating acid 2-3 times a weeks would be beneficial?

I'm glad i was some sort of help 🙂
yes you need to double cleanse if you wear spf, only do it in the evening ofc. Finding an oil cleansing can be hard but it defo is something you need to use. I still haven't found my perfect oil cleanser yet, i'm currently looking at the dokdo round lab one. idk if you've heard of that brand but they have a good reputation for their skincare too.
What was the antibiotic that u were given? I think exfoliating 2-3 times a week would be fine but just make sure the products that your using aren't very strong as your skin is still recovering. If any burning sensation occurs, just stop using it and focus on moisturizing.
And yes ur GP is right to take you off adapalene. I had papules from benzo peroxide but i kept going for multiple months but by the time I was taken off, I had massive scarring. This was a year and a half ago and my scarring is like 90% gone rip

I got lymecycline I tried annual oil cleanser it broke me out more for a few weeks I tried centella skin1004 one recently it seems ok but I don't like the fact both these products r fragranced. Do I oil cleanse every night or every other night and if u don't mind me asking how did u get rid of ur scars did u use anything special? my current routine as a 20 year old male is am - cerave foaming cleanser and skin1004 spf then evening - skin1004 oil centella cleanser, same cerave cleanser after oil cleanse, beauty of joseon dynasty cream what do u think of this although I do regularly swap my spf and mosituiser to see which is the best for me

yeah it is said that you should oil cleanser everyday - as your wearing spf everyday because it will remove the excess oils and dirt etc. There's a girl called Natalie O'Neil on tiktok. She does products recommendations and as she has sensitive skin - she will be recommending products that worked for her so they might work for you? No promises but yeah Natalie is cool.
I used tretinoin which is like adapalene but much more stronger. Idk if you heard of it but it has been a game changer for me.
What sort of skin type do you have, oily sensitive skin right?

okay so lets say it is oily and sensitive:

I haven't heard many bad reviews when it comes to skin 1004 - they seem to be very popular. Both of the products that your using are currently on my list. Most of their products are known to be good for sensitive skin as they are low in fragrance. If you go on their website, you can take a quiz which can lead you to more products .https://skin1004.com/

Cerave can be the best brand for people or the worst - for me it was the worst but if it works for you then it works. I can't say that i've used this product in particular and i wouldn't have because its not for my skin type but other people have either said that its good for your skin type or that it's stripped their skin. If you feel like your skin is dry and tight feeling right after cleansing its sign that your skin has been stripped of its natural oils so i would suggest stopping but if you haven't had any negative experiences, then keep using it.

The Boj dynasty cream has rice bran water which can sooth and hydrate the skin. It has ginseng root water which helps revitalize the skin. There are loads of ingredients that help the skin barrier and hydrate it. It does have cetyl alleviate, sorbitin alleviate and coconut oil which may clog pores but as its mixed with many other ingredients, it really just depends on how your skin is coping with it as it may not be bad at all. I don't know how your skin is coping with it and maybe your skin likes it. Its more aimed towards people with drier and dehydrated in as it can be quite heavy but it also just depends on how much you put on too. I can't say that its making your skin bad but i can say that there are other moisturizers out there which are more tailored to oily skin than this one. This one is still good but if you feel like its making a problem then theres no harm in switching. If your skin feels oily after moisturizing, it probably is because tis product isnt the best.

You shouldn't switch been many products in a short time frame as it will be hard to tell which products are working and which ones are making your skin bad. What is the other moisturizer and spf called?
