Welsh bursary / finance

Hi can anyone help please?
( Welsh Health Care Students)

I will be studying health care in a welsh university this September!
I am trying to work out if i will be best applying for the NHS bursary which will include my tuition fees payed for if i choose to work in Wales for 2 years after qualifying.
This is approx £4 G
Then the maintenance loan is approx £11G
If i opt out i could go for option 2 which is £18G student loan but payable tuition fees of 9G
which ideally would leave me with more money to live off.
My question is how much are students paying back per month after qualifying if they opt out of the NHS bursary route? When i filed out my application it says zero for child care help and Zero for independents ( i thought everyone would get help with having children?)

I need the most money i can get due to being a mature student with 2 children, i don't want to put the financial strain on my husband .

Thank you

hiya I'm applying too, I think the NHS bursary site estimation is inaccurate, we were supposed to be getting the full maintenance loan this year.

When you filled out the application, did you say that you had 2 children?

edit: Personally, I will be switching to SFW if we are getting a reduced loan, my estimation would only leave me with £600 for food and transport for the entire year, there is no way I could live off of that. That's £10 a week!

Hi
Yes i applied for the nhs welsh bursary and stated i had x2 children-
I put my partners income in as it asked for house hold & it came back i would get £3 G plus ( £1000 grant )

I did apply for the maintenance loan via student finance wales & it came back as the full entitlement of £11G

We need clarification on this x

Yeah I got accepted for the full loan too! That's why I was so confused. I'll send them an email on Monday if they get back to me about my last question, I found the section about rent a little confusing.

So I called and emailed them this morning. The email says

"Students can receive the Low maintenance loan from Student finance but as of September 2024, they should receive the maximum amount. However, the decision still currently under review with Welsh Government and hasn’t been finalised yet.

Therefore, by the time come to apply for 2024-25 academic year, we are hoping we will have received more information about a decision on this."

When I called them, they told me to go off the estimation and said that "in some cases you can get the full maintenance". I'm going to hold off my application until we know for sure!
