Some Edinburgh University accommodation options not showing on application form!

Hi everyone! I've just accepted an unconditional offer to study at Edinburgh so I'm trying to apply for accommodation. Some of the options I wanted to go for (basically all of the small rooms in places like Mylnes Court, Nicolson Street, College Wynd etc) aren't coming up as options on my application. Does that mean they're already gone? Just seems crazy if they're already taken because it's only April!

That's odd! They shouldn't all be taken since that's not how they allocate rooms at Edinburgh.

I asked the application office about this and they said it is because those rooms are in very low numbers to begin with, so aren’t offered as a preference ,not because they are already allocated -Edinburgh isn’t first come first served.

Ah this is helpful to know! I knew it wasn't first come first served which is why I was confused that they weren't coming up as options. I wish they'd put this info on the website, I've done all my budgeting based on those figures! Can you tell me if they let you add those as options informally with them or mention anything about how to ask to be allocated to one of those rooms specifically?

They weren’t the most helpful in that regard (I only had a very short phone call with them) you might be able to email them- I think there’s an email somewhere at the bottom of the application form. I have resigned myself to possibly paying more than I wanted to ,but at the end of the application they do ask which is the most important to you (price ,location or bathroom type)

Ah that's a shame they weren't more helpful, sorry to hear that! I've filled it in for the cheapest options I could see and I picked price at the end of the application, so will just need to keep my fingers crossed! Glad to hear that it's not just an issue on my end though, thank you!
