I do edexcel maths and they actually told you it was positive, in this case they were vague about it like a cat meeting its new born mother
Let’s see what aqa says, if your right I will get you a trip to Hawaii but if I am right you have to get me a trip to Hawaii. Deal?

It doesn’t make a difference if you get 947 as they weren’t being specific, idk why you say they have done this before, bring me proof they have and I will believe you…

I mean you have a very similar question in the combined science paper this year so if they expect you to do it there then you might be expected to do it here (I'll grant that the wording is much clearer but you can see how they want combined science students to realise the enthalpy change is -93 not 93, so why not chemistry students (who should know what exothermic means in the context of a bonding q)?
Got it from a tiktok leak ofc:

You can’t change the maths last question and say K is negative when it clearly said it was positive, same for this question, they said 2219 was positive (ik exoteric reactions are negative) but believe me, aqa must have made a mistake, they don’t usually do this!

I understand where all the confusion is now. Some people think that overall energy change being positive means that you have to flip the symbol into a negative so that it fits an exothermic reaction. But others and I used the idea that reactants - products = 2219, so rearranged it to find the reactants. It seems strange to change the question where it says the overall energy change is 2219 to -2219 to fit the question.
the q never said the overall energy change was positive ****** otherwise they woulda put a plus sign. the whole purpose of the q saying it was exothermic is to make you figure out if the o.e.c was positive or negative. the word change can mean either increase or decrease. use your comprehension skills mate

Dude you you’re out of your mind! You never put a plus sign in front off a number, you would never say +1+ 2 when counting so don’t expect it here!

it never saif it was positive. Where is the "+" sign huh where is it??

Dude are you clapped. You never said PLUS 3 PLUS 4 e.t.c when counting and no exam has ever said this number is +567 and so on so why expect it here?

seems like you have never done an aqa chemistry past paper before. they usually put a plus or minus sign before the oec when they want to you calculate bond energy in a typical 4 marker. the extra one mark comes from figuring out if it was positive or negative.

I’m sorry guys. I got a number in like 9000s as well but I agree with the people who got 300s. Yes they did say overall energy change = 2219 but they also said that the reaction was exothermic. We are supposed to know that so in conclusion, the 9000s answers are wrong and it wasn’t not fair and clear. Just accept it and move on

Why are we still debating over this? Personally I got 947 and it most likely could be wrong. But you still get method marks regardless if its right or wrong.

So in the future when you get a value, say 300, it doesn’t say positive so you assume it’s negative, that is crazy to me. 2+2 is -4 now. Nice one bois…. Because there is no positive number in front of 2….
