A level History Revision

hey! i use mainly mindmaps and summary sheets of each topic. After I've finished a summary or mindmap, I'll use a whiteboard or a piece of paper to blurt everything i remember, going over anything I miss in a different colour, then repeat until I remember everything! I also really recommend printing off your specification, past papers and examiners reports so that you can place yourself in the examiner's seat and really understand what it is they want from you.

Hi I’m really struggling to revise clash of ideologies, I’m not sure where to start, it’s so complicated and it’s easy to get confused with all the tiny details. I keep being told what did Russia do and how did the west respond, but I’m very confused as to what they actually done and learning this from presentations, because of all the nitty gritty detailed required to learn, can anyone help?

Hi, I don’t do Russia for history but your question reminded me of something I did for my GCSEs, if you do a graph and write what they did (e.g. built a satellite ) then next to it write what the west did in response in a similar way (e.g. built there own satellite), you can do the same for any themes, this is best to do in chronological order & on coloured post it notes (particularly for any themes), from there make whatever notes you find most helpful and add more detail for both what Russia did and how the west responded, taking my example, you would put both (with extra details) on the same piece of paper or flashcards. I did my History A-Level last year. One thing that really helped me was flashcards for remembering key dates and facts. I found watching YouTube videos and taking notes from that useful, and websites like Seneca, because they usually mentioned the key points I needed to know. Acronyms and mnemonics were really helpful for remembering specific details like the people who were involved in an event. I often made simple posters with a mind map or key dates on, and I would put them in places that I would see regularly, like my bedroom door or next to my mirror. Sometimes just rereading the same fact over and over would get it stuck in my memory.

I’ve tried writing notes summarising the PowerPoints, and then doing the ‘look,cover rewrite” method he I’ve been struggling to retain the information, any advice?
