Suspended studies queries

Dear Student Finance Team,

Hope all is well.

I have suspended my studies and have submitted a form for that at the university that I used to attend. Do I have to submit a form to Student Finance England myself too or is it enough for the university to contact you with the update of my change in circumstances?

Also, I suspended a week ago but this has not been reflected in my student finance online application, assuming due to the processing time at the university. Can I please ask you if my withdraw will be processed from the day I have applied for it (i.e. backtracked) or will it only commence on the day you receive the notification from uni? I am asking this as I am worried that the next term payment might go though but I am no longer at uni so I should not be charged for that.

Hi Emona,

If you have received a payment for the course we will need the university to send us a Change of Circumstances Suspension and they will send this to us electronically. When is your next Maintenance Loan payment due to be paid to you? When we receive the Suspension the university will tell us the date that you suspended and we will base your entitlement from the date they provide.

Hi Drew,

Thank you so much for getting back to me. My next maintenance payment was due to be paid on the 22nd of April but I called the SFE team to block it as I don't want to be overpaid. Given the advise I guess all I can do now is wait. I did contact the uni to inform them that I am withdrawing permanently as I found a job I like better (initially I intended to suspend temporary but now I am certain I am not going back at all). Hope the SFE will receive the electronic update soon so that the payment to the university will be stopped too.

Hi Emona,

Once we get the task from the university they would state the Tuition Fee amount that's liable to be paid. If you did not attend term 3 and the payments made then we will get it back from the uni.

Thank you so much for the response! I did not attend term 3 at all so hope all will be well in regards to this payment's cancellation. I am still waiting for this to be processed but hope all will be as advised.
