University of St Andrews A101 / ScotGEM 2025 Entry

Hi all, hopefully I did this right but I couldn’t see a thread for 2025 Scotgem entry so thought we could share Gamsat prep, interviews, work experience etc here.

Hey! I saw your comments on the 2024 thread; I'm also applying for 2025 entry (future classmates?) and it's definitely hit me recently that we're almost past the post for applications. I'm currrently working on my personal statement, just have my reference to wait for, and then I'm submitting it. I'm also a home student as opposed to RUK, so thanks for setting up this thread.

Are you doing the GAMSAT in September or have you already gotten a solid score? I did my second sitting in March this year, aiming for a 60 and got a 60, which is the kind of average end of a competitive score. I decided to put my time into getting work experience and spending time in hospitals and working on interviews, etc., rather than resitting it in September again just to gain a few points that likely won't affect my application anyway.

Hey! So glad to finally find someone else applying this year. I haven’t even started my personal statement or asked for a reference yet as I’ve been finding it so hard to get work experience. Congrats on your Gamsat score! I’m still to sit it in September, feel like there’s so much I need to get working on ASAP so starting to panic slightly lol. What’s your undergrad in? I’m non-science background as did my undergrad in law so hoping I’ll still be able to cram enough science knowledge in for S3.

Hey! I have a 2.1 Scots law degree from Glasgow uni, so a bit worried about the science section of the Gamsat lol. Have you sat it yet or are you sitting in September?

I have sat it a few times!! I was meant to go back to med in 2022 but life kinda got in the way and my score wasn’t valid anymore!! S3 really isn’t too awful! I’m sure you’ll manage it with a law degree?!! Those are intense!!

I did, but I did it alongside my OU degree (BSc). I think the uni lets you do standalone modules, if you go on to the university website contact information and look to chat to student support, they can guide you. If you're in Scotland, you can apply to have your fees covered by SAAS for the module (it's about £1200 I think) and it won't impact degree funding if you want a SAAS loan for ScotGEM.

I’m really hoping it’ll be tomorrow we hear. Last year was the 16th (2 days after GAMSAT results) apparently, and they did say mid-November. Next week is into late-November really. That’s my current hope, anyway. Haha

I attended the virtual open day yesterday. They said they were still working through applications. But didn't advise any specific dates. Hopefully it's soon.
