Glasgow university

Is there lots of clubbing at the University of Glasgow? I love the university and course but I can't go clubbing due to medical reasons (can't be around strobe lighting) so I'm quite worried about the social scene as I've heard Glasgow has a strong nightlife. I'd be happy going to pubs and other drinking socials that don't have any strobe in the venues but just not clubs. It would be great to know what other people's experiences are.

Current first year (philosophy/politics) student - there is tonnes to do non-clubbing. There’s very popular pubs loads of freshers go to once they get into the year like Kitty’s and the GUU.
Many people in my year other than HIVE (union nights) don’t like clubbing and still love going out for a drink and enjoying themselves. You’ll love it here

Hi there,

I'm just finishing my 1st year of Mechanical Engineering at Glasgow, and was also unable to go clubbing. At first I was really worried it would impact my social life but it has made absolutely no difference!

The West End is full of great bars and pubs which are super popular with students, as well as loads of amazing restaurants and cafes. We have two student unions who have quiz nights, open mics, concerts, pool, snooker and darts, ceilidhs and chill bars to relax with friends in.

I've found that the best friends I've made in my first year have been through societies and sports clubs. For me I've made my closest friends in the Weightlifting Club, Formula One Society and Engineering societies, but there is literally hundreds of societies to suit any interests, and over 50 sports clubs, with many of them hosting free taster sessions through the first few weeks!

Depending on your course as well you'll probably spend a lot of time on campus and meet people in lectures, tutorials etc.

Everyone in Glasgow is super friendly and welcoming, and there is so much to get involved in within the University and surrounding area, I promise you'll have no problem making friends!

All the best!
