Suspending studies for longer than two years

My daughter had to suspend her studies in April of her first year, this was initially due to mental health however when she returned home we realised her Epilepsy had deteriorated significantly and due to this she was unable to resume her studies in September 2023. She is now under an Epilepsy specialist neurologist who is completely changing her medication. He is suggesting writing to the university to ask for a further years suspension. I wondered if anyone has done this? He feels her disability should not stop her returning when her Epilepsy is controlled

It would be best to check directly with the university as each has a different policy and depending on the course some modules can become dated so there will be a date it needs to be completed.
