Have a look through the modules and optional modules for all years of each course and work out which you will find most interesting.

Hi there,

Congratulations with your offer from us!

As stated above defiantly look at the modules of each course to help make your decision. Have you been to visit us on one of our decision days? Have you seen the other universities in person? This will allow you to talk to academics and students at each of the universities and allow you to ask them any questions which you have. It can also help you make you decision as you can get a feel for the city and allows you to picture yourself there.

Something to consider which you may not have already is class sizes. I know at York St John the class sizes are quite small allowing you more access to the equipment as well as more support from your lectures in small groups and 1 on 1. All your lectures will have links to the film industry and will bring in guest lectures to show you their techniques or tell you about the projects that they are working on. Furthermore, you will have the opportunity to work on various projects throughout the degree.

I hope this helps 😊

Hi Millie, congratulations on your offers!

I'm a student at Northumbria who's currently on my placement year and while I don't study film I thought I could give you some insight!
I agree with the other replies that it's important to do research on each of the universities and their courses and go along to open days if you can before you make a decision. We have 2 open days coming up on the 28th and 29th of June if you would like to come and learn more about the course, meet some of the academics and get a feel for the campus.

To give you a bit more information on the film course at Northumbria, we are ranked 2nd in the UK for Film, Production & Photography by the Guardian University League Table for 2024 and on the course you will be taught by award winning film producers and writers, for example Len Collin and Johnny Walker.

I understand being put off as you already live in Newcastle but I have loved living in Newcastle as a student (it's the student crowds 2023 second best student city in the UK for a reason) and I'm sure there's more you can explore as a student.

Let me know if you have any questions and good luck with your research and making your decision
