When stating quotes, do you HAVE to make references? (e.g. for Islamic Quotes, say the quote then the Surah)

Hey i got this from the AQA exam board specification they have more info there if you need about the exact details of the exam and what is required for each question:
The ‘reference’ to teachings or writings can either be paraphrased, or can be a direct quotation. Students do not need to cite references in their answer.

Yes, it's important to reference the source when quoting Islamic texts, like mentioning the Surah and Ayah for Qur'anic verses. For example: "Indeed, with hardship comes ease" (Surah Ash-Sharh, 94:6).

I'm not sure as you can't receive your GCSE papers unless you pay for it or do a remark; I most likely just lost a mark here and there for each question. I got 198, as well, I made a mistake, though I'm not sure if it's out of 202.

Sure - it's been over 7 months or so since I did the RS exams, but from what I remember, I memorised quotes for certain themes/papers and then put it into practice using the past papers. I also looked through the mark schemes and noted quotes that were easy to remember or covered a lot of themes in one.
For the 12-markers, I definitely saw improvement in marks when I decided to add evaluation paragraphs before the conclusion (which I think some people forget to do, or give a very short, bad evaluation) for the statement you're writing about, i.e. the pros and cons.
You can ask anything else which may jog my memory, like I said, this is off the top of my head. It's funny because RS and English Lit were my worst grades (6 and 7) in my January 2024 mocks but I ended up getting 97/98% in both haha.
