University of York accomodation

Hello, I have just made York my firm choice for Uni and am deciding on accommodation but am worried about the accommodation being too noisy.
I am autistic and struggle with noise, so was wondering which college is best to pick?
Thank you

Alcuin and Goodricke have a reputation for being the quieter colleges

Hey, fellow autistic here, I've also just firmed York for the biology department. Just based on the website Alcuin seems the best for location compared to the department and library. It's a shame York doesn't offer quiet accommodation like other universities. I'd love to chat to you though about accommodation and biology courses

Hi, thank you so for this! I would love to chat to you too about the course and accommodation- I am doing biomedical science so we would be in the same department.😀

As others have said, Alcuin's college stereotype is 'the quiet one', but if I were you I'd pay attention to the walls!!! Living in any shared accommodation you're likely to encounter different sleep/wake schedules, living habits and noise levels etc. some accommodation is built to insulate noise better than others. I can't speak for Alcuin but Eric Milner and Le Page have paper thin walls so maybe not the best bet. If you don't already, invest in some ear defenders/noise cancelling headphones just incase (DSA should be able to cover that sort of thing)

ditto on the "I wish York offered "quiet" accommodation like some other unis do"

Hi!

The 40-week lets cover the academic year and Easter and Christmas vacations, up until the start of the summer vacation whereas the 44-week lets cover a bit of the summer vacation. So it depends if you'd like to stay on a bit longer into the summer (for example to get a part-time job) 🙂
