I got into BCU

Hello,

I applied for Birmingham city university and got in for September 2025. 😁(Pending I pass a maths test 👀)

I'm a mature student who's been diagnosed with ADHD. I'm on a waiting list to start my meds so I'm glad I've put uni off for a bit first.

I was wondering as I have some time before I start, is there any pre studying I can do to make the degree a little easier when I start? I've been an assistant for 2 years and know a bit of AAC and have an understanding of dysphagia.

Is there anything else I could brush up on? Phonetics? I know the degree is going to be hard going so I'm wanting to be as prepared as possible 😄

Thanks

Hi @Katechapea

Congratulations on your offer! I'm sure you'll ace your maths test too!

It sounds like you'll be in a really great position to start in September next year. If you're wanting to prepare a bit more, you could try looking over your course page on the BCU website and looking at the course breakdown to see what topics you should expect to cover when you start. Maybe you could do some pre-reading, some more research into these areas so you have a good foundation for when you start. And you could even have a go at setting yourself some research papers/essay based tasks to get you familiar with getting back into studying.

Best of luck for next September! But feel free to ask any more questions about studying here at BCU or about student life in Birmingham! 🙂
