Hey, I'm Katie!

I'm a recent graduate from the University of Salford. I studied theatre and performance practice, and after graduating, I decided to stick around and live in Salford. It's been a big change from growing up in the West Midlands. Being at the University of Salford has been an eye-opening experience for me. It's not just been about delving into the world of theatre; it's taught me so much more than my degree. I've learned how to live independently, make new friends, and grow in confidence as an individual.

Hi, I'm Matt,

I am a recent graduate from the University of Salford. I studied broadcast journalism, and after graduating I continued to live in Manchester. Studying journalism was an amazing experience for me, even if it was during a global pandemic, as I managed to learn so much about the world of media as well as so much about myself. Going to University taught me to adapt to new situations, tackle new challenges and grow in confidence as an individual.

Hi everyone I'm Arslan,

I'm currently a second-year BSc Computer Science student at the University of Salford, gearing up for my placement year starting in July. As a commuting student, I drive down from Oldham, which takes me about 30-40 minutes. Greater Manchester has been my home for as long as I can remember, so I'm pretty familiar with the area.
I'm excited to be part of the Computer Science Society here at Salford, diving into all things tech with like-minded peers.
If you have any questions about my experience as a commuting student, insights into the computer science program, or just want to chat about life at Salford, feel free to ask away! I'm here to help in any way I can.

Looking forward to engaging with you all!

Hi there, interested to hear thoughts on the best place to live if you're going to be studying at MediaCity campus and are rubbish at time management (ie the nearer to MediaCity the better as getting out the door on time in mornings isn't great). Thanks

Hello there,

Although our partner company 'Campus Living Villages' do not have any official accommodation down at our Media City campus, there is tonnes of accommodation options in and around the area.

I would recommend doing some research into this by simply googling (other search engines are available) 'student accommodation at Media City'. This should give you a load of options for different accommodation options.

What I would say is, I was a Journalism student at the University of Salford and lived on our Peel Park campus during my first year of study. We do have the 50 bus as an option to get us to our Media City campus and it is free for Salford students.

I hope this information helps you, if you do have any more questions do not hesitate to get in touch.

Hi Katie,

I just wanted to ask as a Salford uni student did you get any access to other facilities in the other universities like Manchester met or uni of Manchester. Facilities such as their libraries or any others?

Hey @jnuuohnbhi,

During my time at Salford, I found everything I needed on campus and didn't feel the need to use other universities' facilities in Manchester. The rehearsal spaces, theatre, library, and shops were all easily accessible, which made my life so much easier.

Regarding other facilities at Man Met/Uni of Manchester, I did a bit of research, and it looks like their libraries are open to students on specific days/times of the week. Perhaps you might be interested in checking out what else they have to offer.

I hope this helps!

Hiya, I’m Lucy,

I am a mature student studying at the University of Salford. I am about to go into my third & final year of my undergrad degree in Theatre & Performance Practice. I am originally from Wiltshire but decided to up sticks and move my life to Salford as the course was too good to miss out on. I live in a student house in Salford, which means I can either walk or drive to university (depending on the Salford weather).

Salford is the perfect location for me, having spent most of my life living in the green countryside of Wiltshire I didn’t fancy living in a busy city centre. Where I live is near enough to enjoy the vibrant hustle and bustle of Manchester, whilst living in a quieter and greener area.

I was a bit nervous about moving my whole life 200 miles up North, to a busier city, and returning to education after a 12-year gap, but it is one of the best decisions I have ever made. Two years on I am learning heaps on my course, I’ve made some of my best friends, I am loving working for the university alongside studying, and I have even begun thinking about post-graduate jobs with Media City just around the corner.

If you have any questions let me know. I am happy to have a chat

Lucy 😊

Hey @jnuuohnbhi,

Good question!

At Salford University, we use the APA 7th edition for our referencing. It is the official Harvard referencing scheme and the main referencing style used at the University.

If you want you can read more about it here. - It seems like a very useful page on our website where you can watch webinars on referencing and see examples of different ways to use references for your essays.

Hey @jnuuohnbhi,

Yes, we do! So we have our own student-led radio station called SHOCK radio which broadcasts each semester to over 20,000 students across Salford.

We offer a variety of Journalism courses that provide students with the opportunity to professionally publish their work!

We also have a really cool SU where if there isn't a society that you want to join, you can make one! So there might not be a Salford student-led newsletter society, but there very well could be 😎

Hi there,

Congrats on securing your place at Salford! When I started, someone made a group chat and sent out invites near the end of an induction lecture, which was super helpful for connecting with people early on. Freshers' Week is also a fantastic time to meet new people - everyone's in the same boat, and looking to make friends, so it's really easy to connect.

You might also want to check if there are any Facebook groups or WhatsApp chats for your course or accommodation. Sometimes these pop up a few weeks before term starts. You could always start one yourself if nothing’s been set up yet!

Best of Luck,
Arslan University of Salford Student Representative

Hello there,

This is an excellent question and a great way to get prepared for University life. Some apps that we recommend are as follows:

Safe zone - great for security information on our campus

AccsessAble - information on access spaces on our campus

UniDays, student beans, TOTUM - student discounts

Outlook email and microsoft teams

Blackboard Learn - for classes

Too good to go - for cheap food

The classics like Uber, Amazon, and socials are also ones we recommend.

I hope this brief list helps you - any other information do not hesitate to get in touch.

I'm living on peel park campus this September I've completed my induction and according to campus living village website/app people start booking their 2nd year accommodation in November? Was this the case with you? And how early were people booking their accommodation for second year too I imagine spaces for accommodation go so quick right? Further more just another question, campus village for peel park quarter said that there are some music practice rooms within the accommodation, did you ever live on peel park campus?
