Accommodation concerns - Stirling Uni

I am mostly planning on accepting my offer at Stirling university for the September 2024 semester, however I am unable to do so because I am still waiting on responses from other universities via UCAS. I need to apply to student accommodation on the 15th when it opens but to do this it says you need to have accepted your place via UCAS which I will not be able to do. I've been told by the university that accommodation is given on first come first served basis, so now I am really concerned I will be without a place to stay. Could anyone give me advice? Thanks.

According to Stirling's policy, first years are guaranteed accommodation and have until 30 June (or 31 Aug if from outside Scotland) to apply. Although applications opens this month, they don't make any offers of accommodation until August. So wait for your other uni offers and then decide which course is best for you.

Unis should not put applicants under any pressure to make their firm/insurance decisions early. If you have received information from the uni that imples that you get priority booking for firming early, then you can report it to UCAS through [email protected].

In retrospect, I believe that Stirling is breaking UCAS rules by stating that applications are on a first-come, first-served basis when they open before the June decisions deadline. I have reported the uni to UCAS and I will update you if I get a response.

They can open accommodation applications now but unis can't put pressure on students to make their decisions early. It's the first-come, first-served basis that is the issue.

Why anon for your post?

You can withdraw entry from the universities that you are still waiting on. If you do this then you will be able to confirm Stirling as your first choice.
