how do unis compare our results to other people for applications?

When applying for University, do Universities compare our results to other people in our year group within our school? or previous alumni results? orr across the whole nation? or all of it? and which comparison metric has a higher weighting? comparisons within school?

They asses you application against whatever criteria that Uni uses - ie. A level predicted grades, GCSE profile, Personal Statement and reference - and every Uni and within that, every course, will do this in a different way.

You are only being compared against 'everyone else who has applied for that specific course at that Uni'.
Unis have no interest in who else from your school has applied - why would they.
