im in similar position to u. after gcses, im personally planning to take a 1/2 week break and then start on a level maths content (at a casual pace while still enjoying holiday). im personally very mathsy-minded so i feel self teaching maths would be fairly easy for me.

u can view the oxford admission statistics for medicine online, just look it up. it shows how many 8/9s successful applicant typically have as well as the proportion of gcse grades at 8/9

alright thank you good luck

Hi, I’m currently an offer holder for
3 medical schools and will be starting at Leicester med school In September.

For GCSEs you need at least a 6 however due to the competetive nature of the application for medicine I would say you need higher. Ideally be aiming for 9/8 in your main subjects but 7s can suffice depending on where you apply. For a levels definitely pick biology and chemistry and for your third I would say pick a subject that you will be confident in that you can get an A/A*. Why do you want to do maths? I did A level maths and found it pretty hard, it’s very different to GCSE maths.

But what I would say at the moment is that focus on your GCSEs, and btw have you looked into what it takes to become a surgeon??? It’s a very long and difficult process. (Take this from someone who would like To be one)

Hi there!

I'm one of the current medical students at UCLan so hopefully I can offer some advice on this! I would have a look at the entry requirements for a couple of the universities that you are looking at as some may have different entry requirements to others! For example, some may say. just achieving to a high standard whilst others may have specific grades they want you to achieve!

I have linked out MBBS entry requirements here for you to see!

I hope this helps,
-Rebecca, UCLan
