Can I save my grade? Third year

Law third year, I got a 59% ish last year, and a 55 ish this year, although 80/120 credits are still completely untouched with this year weighting 66%

Dissertation due in just over 2 weeks, with a bit more than half of the world count left…

I’m worrying that my alcoholism (which I’ve recently sorted out) has screwed me out of graduating with a 2:1.

Any last minute diss writers, people who saved their grade in third year, please give me some motivation… I would appreciate it a lot

Thanks

HI there,

I would recommend if you are struggling with your dissertation to try and speak to your personal tutor/academic advisor about this as they will be the best people to be able to help you. If you email them, they should be able to set a meeting up with you if this is possible and you can discuss how you are feeling and they may have some solutions to be able to help you.

You could also try and speak to your module tutors about this and see if they have any advice for you as they may also be able to help if you are struggling.

If you have two weeks left, you should be able to complete it well if you focus for the next two weeks and try not to get distracted with other things as this should be enough time to finish it, depending on how many words it is that you need to write.

I would also say that your grades from last year have happened now, and as much as you want to do well, it is worth just doing as well as you can do on your dissertation and try not to worry about what has already happened. As long as you try your best on your dissertation and know you have done as well as you can in the time left, this is all you can do.

I hope some of this helps and good luck.

I’ve got an extension for 2 weeks already, and I didn’t engage with them as much as I should have in the months prior. To be honest there were only three meetings, 1 being a group one even though our dissertation are entirely personal.

I don’t think it’s smart for me to talk to them, I’m not even at my uni city right now, and I have a pressing deadline…

I know I can only do what I can now but it still hurts a lot to think that I let my mental struggles potentially ruin and sabotage my life outcomes for the rest of my life. I feel embarrassed I let my mental health get the better of me and make me drink like an alcoholic (for the past year or so) and do other things l for pretty much the entirety of uni.

Hi,

Third year is a stressful year in general, so you've done really well, as you've had personal issues that you've had to manage on top of third year stress. I know you don't want to talk to your personal tutor or/and supervisor but I think it would probably really help. They may be able to go through your work that you've wrote and help you make a plan for the rest of the work you need to do for the diss. You can always have a meeting via zoom or teams, so that make it easier if your not at your university city currently. I remember when i was doing my diss last year, the last few weeks when can feel very overwhelming when you have loads of deadlines all at the same time, I found talking to my uni lecturer’s really helpful, as they made the workload feel a lot more manageable.

A lot of universities will have several ways to work out the end classification, which could be something you talk to your lecturers about? If you don’t feel comfortable with that, it’s probably will be on the university website under their policies section. I think you still get a 2:1 but getting support from your university will probably be the best way to achieve that, as struggling with workload by yourself won’t help.

Mental health issues happen to so many people, so please don’t be embarrassed about struggling with mental health issues whilst at uni. Although you've nearly finished your degree, you’ll still be able to access support from the uni wellbeing teams before you leave. They might be able help and support you, with worries about postgrad employment

Good Luck!

My advisor doesn’t get back till the 14th and that’s only 12 days before it’s due. Only really 11 full days as well.

I should note that I really left it late, I did some wider reading and such but didn’t even make a set plan. I’ve never been organised

I think it’s very likely I’ll graduate with a 2:2. I know self limiting beliefs aren’t helpful but just being realistic at this point.

I’m going to try my best but honestly feel as if I’m at my breaking point right now
