A level biology aqa revision

Hi, I’m a y12 student and I’m literally lost about biology revision . I’m getting As in my tests but Idk do i do enough revision or not!
Do you think is it enough to go through the text book and highlight the key bits + making flashcards and doing the PEQs?
Many thanks.

Hi! I'm also a Year 12 student, and feel that Biology is my strongest subject! I'd say for biology revision, I would agree with everything you're doing, however if you're not entirely sure whether it's working, I would suggest mixing things up and seeing what way of studying suits you the most, rather than spreading your workload over so many different techniques. If you're still not sure, I'd also suggest sitting a Past Paper under timed conditions, analyse your score, what went wrong, and learn from the test by consolidating your understanding of topics and trying similar questions to ones you got wrong!

Apologies for the long reply, I hope this was helpful!

Hi I’m year 13 and I’d say the biggest thing for biology is making sure you know all the key words as without a couple words you can lose all the marks even if it’s clear you know what you re talking about but practice this through definitions and exam questions, you’ll find when you do exam questions you know the answers but you’ll have missed a simple word and it’ll just help you to remember them more and more each time you do them
also a year 13 here, I miss year 12 biology soo much I'm so lost with yr 13. the content's ok to learn but I hate aqa exam questions and mark schemes why's it so hard

Hi! I did AQA a level biology last year and ended up with an A, so I will try to help you out as much as possible!

For AQA biology the key is the mark scheme because it is sooo specific!

In order to learn the content (because there is way too much) I would try doing 2-3 of the 4-6 mark questions a day and then mark them. The next day, retry the same questions. Then a week later do them again until your answer is literally the mark scheme!

Miss Estruch does THE BEST videos to learn content, and if you go on her website she has specific practice questions for different types of questions ( e.g. maths ones, short answer etc).

One of the things that was a game changer for me nearer the exam was reading through the specification! It is vital that you look at the spec!

There are certain things that you learn that aren’t on the spec, and certain things you probably didn’t think were important that are! It specifies which definitions you need to know, so ones that you could be asked in the exam. Any other definitions are useful but not important.

For the essay, this requires quite a bit of research, so if you have a friend you can do this with it would be v useful, you need to look through all the previous essay questions and plan them. The most recent ones will not be asked again for a while so don’t worry about the specifics for them. This is where practicing the 4-6 markers come in handy!

Each of those questions can be a paragraph of your essay (+ a bit of extra info)!

Past papers under timed conditions is also v important, and especially essays under timed conditions!

I know that is a lot of information!

You obviously will not be able to cover everything I have mentioned (I definitely didn’t!), but the most important thing is not to worry and try not to get too overwhelmed by all the content!

Romy xx
