What exactly is short

why are heights just below average for a girl (5”2/3) considered tiny when heights just above average (5”5/6) is considered normal? I’m a 5”3 girl and though I know I’m not tall for a fact I don’t feel extremely small either so just curious. 🙂

I don't think 'normal' is the right way of thinking of it. 5'5"-5'-7" is what I think most people in the UK would consider "average" for a woman (also remember averages also vary by country/globally). But that doesn't mean being more or less is "abnormal" or bad. There's nothing wrong with being shorter than the average. It's just part of natural variations.

I relate to this lol. I'm 5'0 (so only 3 inches below average height) and people CONSTANTLY point it out and say things like "oh my god you're like a little baby" or that they've never seen someone so short (both real comments I've had lol). Never known why they do it, like of course I'm short, but I'm not so comically short that a grown adult would be so shocked they couldn't help themselves or hold back a comment on it. It used to really get to me but I've stopped caring by now.

5”9 is the male average height so 5”11 is above average but still in the average range I think. 5”4 is the female average so it makes sense 5”7 is the start of tallish? I guess it depends on where you live.

I was wondering the same thing. 5'3 isn't even that short, at least to me it's not so I don't understand why people always say 5'3 is tiny yet not have the same reaction for someone that's 5'4/5'5?? Like the heights aren't that different

Especially when clothing ranges say that petite is 5”3 and below and tall is 5”9+ when 5”7 clearly is tall too and 5”3 is only an inch below average. Then again clothes are made for taller people.

well, it's probably tiny from a male's pov.
from a woman's pov... (i'm 5'6) i just find women that height to be kinda short, but pretty average. i come from a country where women tend to be either very short or very tall, lol.
but like, the 'short' heights of 5'2, 5'3, are nice heights!, (and must be nice when buying clothes 😭👍)

That’s probably true actually, because if you’re 5”4 for example, you are only taller than half the female population but shorter than most the male population. So ig that could be the reason. Haha yeh buying clothes isn’t really of a struggle luckily 😂.
