SSL for PhD full-time students (England)

Hi,

Is the Special Support Loan (SSL) available for full-time PhD students, who are receiving PIP? It’s really hard to find information on SSL.

As there is no maintenance loan available for PhD students there is also no Special Support Element

Could you please clarify what Special Support Element is? There is almost no information out there on SSL, so I am not sure what that means. However, I assume that the answer to my previous question is basically a “no”. If that is the case, do you know what other financial support can a disabled full-time PhD student can get in England?

Hi Ile33,

The Special Support Element is an increase to the maintenance loan based on certain eligibility criteria such as receiving disability benefits.

We do not offer any additional support for Doctoral students with a disability except for Disabled Students Allowance
