Student finance

Just got my 3rd year student finance and am blown away with how little I will be getting . My parents are supporting 2 of us at uni and only earn £65,000 I have other friends who come from households that are earning half of what my parents do and they are getting more than double .I don’t understand it in theory why shouldn’t it be roughly the same if you have half their joint wage it will be the same amount earned as what it is if it is a single household wage

Hi jojolily,

We do have to take your household income into account to income assess your maintenance loan. We don't halve their wage but for every additional student they are supporting we divide the income assessed loan reduction by two in a process called "split contribution"

Thanks,
Calum
