Kpop trainee / GCSE Options

Hello! I'm 13 right know and currently in Year 9. I'm a really passionate musician since my family introduced me to the violin at the age of 4, my love for music and performing had expanded into many different genres, that's when I came across kpop.

Alright, I won't enlighten you with my whole backstory but just to say, I'm working on audition for a kpop company. And as GCSE is also approaching, I don't know which subject I should pick.

I really want to pick ones that will help me become a kpop trainee and progress in that area also start to create music. Music GCSE seems like a likely choice for me but I have no Idea what else to pick.

Thank you

What other subjects could you take?
I don't know what your school offers or whether they have any specific requirements when it comes to picking subjects

Do any of those stand out to you? Which of those subjects do you enjoy the most?

drama would defo be rly good for building confidence, being able to act & public speaking. maybe product design too as it’s quite an artistic hands on subject.

tbh though i don’t think any specific gcses would help much with something like being a kpop trainee. perhaps you should choose subjects you find easy so you can spend more free time practicing dancing & singing

Agree. In auditions, companies often look for those with confidence and potential. Companies also like to cast younger trainees (some are casting teenagers that are born in or after 2009 now). So if you really want to be one, do try auditioning sooner. There are quite many online auditions if there's not one in the city you are living in.

Before you actually go to an audition, really investigate how will it actually be as a kpop trainee. It will be very TOUGH, eg diet to lose weight, eliminating trainees if they've not improved enough, etc. The kpop industry is quite dark (most entertainment industry is) i.e. the power struggles between companies, stuff that is happening recently in the industry, and more.

I don't want to put you off from being a kpop trainee. I, myself, is a kpop stan and once wanted to be a trainee when I was around your age. But it really requires a strong mental strength and resilience to cope with all that stress and cultural difference. If you ended up being one, I will support you.
