Maintenance loan over payment

I have recently just received my maintenance loan for this term which I got at the beginning of this week. However I do not want to go back to university as one of my course tutors is horrible and I’m really not enjoying it with how horrible she actually is.
From receiving the maintenance loan I have paid a couple of bills and my debt off and I don’t want to repay the overpayment back… is there a way around this? Do I have to inform uni I’m withdrawing or can I just not turn up and withdraw later on in the summer so that I do not have to pay anything back? I’m not sure how it works but I really do not want to be back at university but I can’t pay the overpayment back so I’m stuck. Any help or advice will be great.

Hi Meemoo2,

Your university will need to inform us that you have withdrawn from your course and once we process this you may have an overpayment for your maintenance loan. There is no way around this and you will need to arrange a payment plan once your overpayment has been generated.

Thanks,
Calum

Hi, Thankyou so much for your reply, is the payment plan feesible? Will it just be what I can pay as I can pay it? I do work so I will be able to pay it back but unsure how long it will take.

Kind regards
Amelia

Hi there,

Yes, we won't ask you to repay the full amount all at once, and any repayment plan will take your circumstances into account.

If the overpayment happens we'll send you a letter confirming this and the next steps.

Thanks, Graeme
