CITY, UoL, or SOAS?

I’ve been researching graduate job prospects and employability rates for Law students that have graduated from City, University of London and SOAS, and I’m stuck deciding on which university to go to. Which one is more successful in securing training contracts from good law firms and successful job prospects in the legal field post graduation?

Hi,

SOAS is well-recognised university, not just in the UK but internationally, making it an excellent choice for future job prospects. SOAS holds a top spot in the UK for employability ranking 6th for employability rates after graduation (2023 rankings).
SOAS' strong international focus and expertise in diverse regions provides law graduates with a unique global perspective, which is very valuable in today's interconnected legal landscape.

City, University of London, also has a strong reputation in the legal field, particularly in commercial law. It's proximity to the City of London is also advantageous as students often benefit from dedicated employability programmes and partnerships with nearby firms.

SOAS, on the other hand, offers a more specialised and globally focused legal education which often appeals to students interested in international law, human rights and development law. SOAS has strong international networks within these fields and this proves as a major asset for those pursuing these career paths. A lot of SOAS graduates pursue Law here in order to move abroad and continue their careers elsewhere.
This blog is a great read from our alumni who discusses how law at SOAS has helped shape her career in Dubai:

Both universities have strong employability records but your decision should ultimately align with your career aspirations and the specific type of law you wish to practice.

Best of luck,
EH.

OP, SOAS has more recognition than City and UoL, and better student facilities. UoL has a lot of people passing through it for postgraduate professsional qualifications, but its offer for an LLB place is BBB, so it's not a great place to do a law degree. City is probably OK for the professional courses, but I don't rate its academic standards for the LLB.
