kcl accomodation-girls only

I've recently received an offer to study at kcl. It's my dream uni and I'd absolutely love to be able to go there. However, I'm slightly concerned about the accommodation and the likelihood of being able to be with just girl flatmates especially as a Muslim girlie. Does anyone know if kcl considers religious reasons as a good reason to ask for girls only and what is the likelihood of receiving this accomodation?

hii, im pretty sure they should consider religious reasons as that wouldn’t be fair if they didn’t! maybe call up the uni and ask them about, do tell me what they say if you do. I’m planning on getting a girls only accommodation at Bristol so also hoping they consider religious reasons!

heyyy, yeah I thought they would consider it and I've emailed them and they havent honestly been very considerate. They just sort of said that when you book rooms you can see what gender the room mates currently are but the problem with that is that anyone can cancel/change the room or someone could be added to your room. so I'm honestly really confused.

yh that’s weird, do they not have the option of just choosing single sex? at bristol you choose that. that’s quiet weird that you have to look at whose your housemates

I havent actually firmed my offer yet bc I'm so worried about the accomodation but from what it seems like when I emailed them there is no single gender option available

that’s so bad of them and quite annoying especially when this is the uni that you want to go to! what other offers do you have, do they have single sex accommodation, and would you still enjoy your time at a different uni? not sure what I would do in your situation as there’s such a risk that you could end up in a mixed accommodation which is a difficult situation when your religious

Hi Maya, I have the same dilemma. I will be joining KCL from September and debating between commuting or staying in an accommodation. Even if you stay in a girls only accommodation, your flat mates are allowed to have male friends to stay overnight . Have you found something? May be a few of us can share an accommodation. If not possible this year then may be next year. Send me a message if you are interested.

I notice there is Ashwell House which is a women only hall and it's not far from King's at all. It's operated by a Christian trust, but it accepts women from all faiths. It might be worth looking into: https://ashwellhouse.org.uk/

Hello, I had the same problem, in my first year, they rearranged the flat to be females-only because it is an under-18 accommodation, and they are the ones to choose the student rooms. When I tried to apply for another accommodation for the next academic year, they rejected my request for a female-only flat. I am currently looking for an apartment because there are no females-only accommodations near kcl :frown:
