Placement interviews help!!

I have 2 interviews next week. My first interview I have on Monday and I got it from applying online. My second interview I have on Friday and I got it from personally calling the company and emailing them. The first company is for a placement year and the second company I said I have a preference for a placement year. Idk if I’ll get both of them but if the second company asks if I want a summer or year which should I say? In an ideal world I would want the first company as a year long placement and the second company as a summer. How should I go about this?

You hope that the first company respond to you by Thursday. If they don't, you won't know whether to tell the second company whether you are even available for a placement or not.

If it doesn't happen that way, then you tell the second company something like this: "I actually interviewed for a placement year elsewhere on Monday and told them that I would accept their offer if they made one. Obviously I'd love to do the placement year here, but feel that I need to honour the commitment I made to them, if they make me an offer. If I they do, I'd of course be available for a summer role here instead."

That's open and honest, and implies to the second company that you're "in demand". It also conveys that you're an honourable person, keen to follow-through on a commitment you made elsewhere.

Hi, when I was looking at possibly doing a placement year I was told that there was the possibility of doing my placement in more than one company. If this interests you then it would be worth asking a member of staff that helps support with placement year opportunities if this is possible. I hope you enjoy your placement opportunity. 🙂
