Do Oxford maths prefer 4A levels?

Hi guys, I have an annoying admissions question that I need clarifying. I’m planning to apply for mathematics at Oxford in the next admissions cycle and have been working very hard all year by going through all the STEP 1 papers and I’m going to be sitting the AEA this year as well. My dilemma is that I don’t want to continue with my fourth A level, as it is a humanity, unrelated to what I want to apply for and I’m not enjoying it at all .My head of maths says that I will be making a mistake if I decide to drop it and sit 3 A levels in my final year and not sit maths in year 12. ( What most of my further maths class do) As Oxford in particular apparently secretly prefer people who do 4 A levels. Is there any truth to this?

There is no truth. Take it from an Oxford maths tutor.

Hi, sorry to bother you again, but the fact that most of my further class will be taking four won’t disadvantage me right? I don’t want to make it seem like I’m doing less work on purpose I genuinely just want more time to be doing maths beyond the spec.

Many people sitting further maths drop one of their subjects by the end of year 12 to focus on further maths and maths and their application to uni. Unis will ask for three subjects including maths and further maths

That’s good to hear, hopefully I won’t be out of the race!

Oxford offers are made on 3 A'levels (with the bizarre exception of Earth Sciences). Therefore whether you take 3 or 4 A'levels makes no difference.
