hills road sixth form

what is the furthest they will accept students? i'm mainly interested in their classics a level since there are no schools near me that offer it, but hills is around 1 hour and a half on the bus i would like to say? maybe even 2 hours if the traffic is bad
and i know that's a very long distance but i am still very curious haha

I'm pretty sure the maximum they'll accept people who live ~ 2 hours away from the school.

Not too sure. It depends every year depending on their catchment area and whether that class is over subscribed. They told me last year was 15 miles - take it with a pinch of salt. However if you go to a CAP school then distance I'm pretty sure is irrelevant.
I think they are other schools in cambridge that offer classics? I think cheserton? If I'm not mistaken. I'm assuming your school uses my choice 16? If so you can use that to search, which school offers it.

Hope this helps xx

hills road y13 doing a levels here!
hills is a lovely place and IMO its a very good school, but you should judge whether classics a level is really worth it. hills has a lot to offer in terms of teaching and general placement in cambridge, but it sounds like your commute will probably cost you. bottom line is if you're willing to deal with that inconvenience of transport, its probably worth it.

classics is not a hugely subscribed subject, but if you want to do other more popular subjects like maths, they might not allow you to study them if you live further than 2h away - my friend who lives in wendens ambo wasnt allowed to do maths cus he lives too far away

Someone I know didn't get accepted sadly (They are predicted four 9s, three 8s and two 7s) but lives about 30 minutes by train away. Do you know anyone who got in on the reapplication or if these grades aren't good enough? Thank you 😀

Hiya I know a few people who did post results application and got in! We weren't from a CAP school and grades wise as long as you hit the minimum entry requirements for the subjects you want to take it should be alright as I know a few people who had 5s in other subjects that weren't taking 😁
It is a bit of luck to be honest in these scenerios
Best of luck xx

No worries xx
May I ask for more detail about swapping/changing subjects? This is what I think you mean?
For me, I was offered subjects that I didn't want but accepted the offer nevertherless to secure a place and change it on results day or in the school year. As you know you can put up to 5 subjects. I was successful in changing my subjects on results day. That's the same for other friends, and 1 changed her subjects as she didn't like them and was allowed as there was space. The deadline for changing subjects is October half term and there is no guarantee but it usually is successful!

If you mean because of entry requirements yes it depends on the context and when you apply and the grades you actually get in the summer

Ah yes sorry, I wasn’t very clear but your answer was so helpful. I didn’t mean entry requirements just offers not being for the top three choices as you kindly explained 😊

Also do you think if she gets in on results day, not going to induction will really affect her?

Thanks again!

I don't think induction is optional, it's after the start of term.

Like the other user mentioned it won't affect her much at all. They is another induction day when you start yr 12 to ease your way through and ensure your device is all set up for the new school year and meet your form!

That’s good thanks. Sorry I only knew about the induction in the summer in July.
