what do you want to do in the future? fellow yr 12 bio, chem, maths girlie trying to find an alternative to medicine.

Hi! So I finished A Levels with:
A* - french
A - german
A - bio
B - chem
A* - EPQ
and I will go on to do Medicine at UEA 🙂

if you don't want to do medicine anymore, ask yourself what attracted you to medicine in the first place that doesn't fit you anymore: Was it money? Was it the caring part? Was it the STEM part?

if it was money go into: computer science, finance, engineering etc.
if it was caring go into: Speech and language therapy, nursing, veterinary, physio, healthcare jobs (search the NHS website) paramedic etc. ( or even other ones that fit you better and that involve caring for others)
if it was STEM go into: Biomed, chem, biology, maths, biochem etc. (you can study engineering in any of those)

I was once heard: if you are hesitating between Art and Medicine, then Dentistry is the one for you !

I am personally not a Maths girly at all (more of a languages girly in case you couldn't tell) so a lot of the more maths-y subjects I have never considered as a viable option

Hope this helps 🙂

yeah it was way less stimulating and helped my sleep schedule because I couldn't read movie analysis for very long haha even tho it was interesting I would know when to stop unlike scrolling that has no start and no end 😭 It was also very exciting to make my non-fiction tbr 🙂 do you have Goodreads ?

I do have goodreads but I barely use it because I go through books so fast I get lazy and don't log it onto good reads😭

sorry for the late reply, but thank you girlie. This really put things into perspective for me.srsly,thanks. I think I am stuck between the money and STEM option rn.But,this is a great way of thinking abt this. And really,I think I just realised work life balance is really imp for me and I can't forfeit that for medicine. otherwise,100% I would go for med.

Hi! Dw I am so happy I can help out with the little experience I have of applying to med schools x

I would say go for engineering in whatever field is most attractive to you.
money🤝Stem
Bonus if you can still add the caring part by engineering things that help women be it with inequalities in healthcare, finding solutions to period pain/leakage whatever (ahem) or be an ecology queen and help us all out (I think that's such a feminist move as well, things designed by women for women)
(in case you couldn't tell my epq was on: why are women still suffering from period pain in the 21st century)

Hi @wilderose and @maria._. just to let you know we are aiming to close this 2023-24 forum this week so so that you don't lose your chat/can continue I am happy to move this thread into the new GYG 2024-25 area or feel free to set up a new GYG/chat. Let me know what would be best
